About Your
Member Protection Warranty
Member Protection Warranty
The Attorney Shield® Member Protection Warranty is designed to give members peace of mind if an encounter with law enforcement escalates into an unlawful arrest or use of force. If a covered event occurs, the warranty may help offset certain documented, out-of-pocket expenses related to that incident — subject to defined terms and conditions.
What situations may be considered unlawful?
While laws vary by state, the courts have identified common circumstances where an arrest or use of force may be deemed unlawful.

Wrong Person (mistaken identity)
An arrest occurs due to incorrect information or a case of mistaken identity.

Bad or Invalid Arrest Warrant
A warrant based on false, missing, or misleading information can be invalid.

No Reasonable Articulatable Suspicion
An officer must have specific facts to believe a crime happened or is about to happen.

Discrimination or Personal Bias
An arrest may be influenced by unlawful discrimination or improper personal bias.

A Charge of Resisting Arrest Only
In some states, resisting requires that the officer was making lawful arrest for an iniital unlawful act.

Fake or Fabricated Evidence
Inventing a confession or witness statement, writing false facts in a report, or planting damning evidence.
The Unexpected Potential Costs of Police Escalation
Encounters with law enforcement can lead to a range of unexpected expenses — even when no charges ultimately stick. The examples below illustrate common out-of-pocket costs members may face after an escalated incident that may be reimbursed under the Member Protection Warranty following a covered event; subject to defined terms and conditions.
